The number of small businesses that are increasingly wanting Business Continuity advice is growing – this means that it is now starting to filter down to the smaller of our SMEs. However, a Business Continuity capability cannot be developed in a day. It does not matter the size of your organisation or the amount of turnover you create, Business Continuity Management follows an industry wide recognised methodology and framework = we will work WITH you to develop a ‘fit for purpose’ Business Continuity Plan but unfortunately this is not something that is done in isolation by us. Templates are available to download from the internet, but this is not something that we recommend as you risk turning the whole process is to no more than a ‘tick in the box’ exercise. BCM Presentation to Academies

Don’t wait for an incident to happen, ensure you have robust Business Continuity Plans in place and most importantly that they will work when you need them.

Academy Schools

Whilst many schools are now moving to Academy status they become stand alone and are now in need of developing their own Business Continuity Plans and Disaster Recovery documentation. Something they have not had to consider before and the task is potentially seen as a little daunting. Liverpool Law Society

Just on the train heading for the Liverpool Law Society where we have been asked to speak on Business Continuity Management. Attendees will consist of both lawyers an non-lawyers with no doubt varied levels of knowledge regarding Business Continuity and Disaster Recovery. Popping in a little bit too around Risk and BS25999. Looking forward to a long but enjoyable day.

Networking in Northampton

We attended the Northampton Chambers networking event last night. It was an excellent venue at the Derngate and Royal in the Town Centre. The event was extremely interesting with three presentations. It was great to get back networking again after being out of the country for so long. Explaining what we do always kicks off some interesting discussions about Disaster Recovery vs Business Continuity. Excellent evening – thank you to the Derngate Northampton.

Get Ready – be prepared

Well this appears to be the ‘word on the streets’ here in Scotland this week. Urging people to get ready for the anticipated bad weather over the coming months, doing everything to avoid the high number of incidents experienced earlier this year. Space blankets are being issued by the Scottish council along with advise on how to ‘prepare’. All of this is BUsiness Continuity driven. My advice……”Plan for the worst, hope for the best”

Business Continuity – Adverse Weather – what can we do……..

Thinking about the inevitable cold weather looming ahead and of course the snow. There are some things that we really should be considering to ensure we plan ahead.
Personally, I will be ensuring that I have my wellingtons/heavy coat/gloves/water and some breakfast bars in the boot of my car. If I do get stuck, at least I hope to be warm. I have also had my tyres checked and have considered changing to winter tread.
If you are a business and need to consider vulnerable people, perhaps you are managing a care home or school then put plans in place to get people in to the warm, in the event of an evacuation (you may not be able to return back to the building for a while). Do you have sufficient blankets, if needed and can they get a warm drink.
All of the above might seem going above and beyond and hopefully you will never have to use any of this, but if you do, believe me you will be so glad that you planned ahead. Adverse weather conditions will not wait for you to get prepared – so do it now. Business Impact Analysis

Today is a full day developing and reviewing a number of Business Impact Analysis documents. These are the cornerstone of any successful BCM capability and therefore the accuracy of the data captured is essential, as it is this that the overall recovery strategy will be based upon. Providing evidence to the IT community on what the business needs, rather than historically what the IT can deliver.

Really looking forward to the day and meeting some new local managers within this well known charity.

Dress Rehearsal

Today is our dress rehearsal day for the Merger and Divestment Business Continuity presentation, if a few weeks. Webenar is not working as I would have hoped – there are some things that just do not go well on a MAC – I guess this is just one of them. So the manual approach is needed – invoking my contingency plan – for this event anyway
